Kroll
I am more persuaded by Kroll's essay. I am more persuaded because his appeals to my emotions more. He is witnessing his friend being sentenced to the death penalty, having to wait to die, and dying. His argument seemed much stronger due to the fact it appeals to my emotions more. In Mencken's essay, there isn't really any personal accounts so I don't get as persuaded.
Sixteen Military Wives
The subject matter of this song is 16 military wives, 15 celbrities, 18 academy chairs, and 14 cannibal kings. This song is about our society. How there is sadness (military wives with dead husbands), crazyness (celebrities), and control (cannibal kings). The theme is there is always control.
Race for the prize
The theme of the song is to always try your hardest even if you don't succeed. In the chorus its says "theirs is to win if it kills them." The is talking about to scientists trying to find a cure. I relate this back to scientists trying to find a cure for cancer. Some try their whole lives but never succeed, but they never give up.

Fallacy
"--the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God."
This is committing the appeal to faith fallacy. It commits this fallacy because it brings up God, which not all believe in and it simply appeals to faith. A speech that commits so many fallacies can still be so effective and famous simply because of the person presenting the speech. For example, if a regular everyday person presented this speech, it would not be as effective. People tend to not listen to the actual facts when someone they idolize or don't even like but are famous is presenting the speech.

Duck and cover
The overt message is to duck and cover. The covert message is we are under attack. At this time period, atomic bombs were expected to happen. This is persuasion because it is obviously enforcing you to duck and cover when you see a flash, or else you will be severely harmed. They don't say what will happen or the fact that you probably won't survive anyways though.
Destination Eartth
The overt message is that oil is awesome and it is needed to run a variety of things. The covert message is oil can turn a simple society that didn't even need oil into a competitive, oil dependent society. The Kernal does this to Mars after he visits earth. This is propaganda because it wants you to believe something without directly telling you.

Propaganda Images
The overt message is to eat less bread. The covert message is to sacrifice what you have at to give to the armies fighting in World War II. This is propaganda and not persuasion because it is trying to get you to think a certain way without realizing it.
Clampdown
I think this song is about Nazi Germany because in one stanza it talks about Jews and then there are parts of the song in German. The fast beat, which gets faster over time, creates suspense. Which I think Nazi Germany was like because the Jews never knew when the Nazis were coming for them. I think this is propaganda because it proves something and shows a story.

Quotes
The quotes I understood were 507, 508, 520, and 530. The quote I am going to discuss is quote 530
"A communicator’s effectiveness is increased if he initially expresses some views that are also held by his audience." This is basically saying a speaker should probably discuss and agree with the views of his audience if he wants his speech to be effective. For example, a Republican can't go to a group of Democrats and discuss his views and try to get them to agree with him. It would most likely end in conflict or the audience becoming uninterested. To keep the audience intrested or to persuade them, one must talk about what the others want to hear.
